2017 Beauty Trend Predictions

Gone are the days where the beauty calendar sees four seasons, new products are being pushed out on a weekly basis to reflect the latest trends, most of which are derived from social media. It's an industry that moves so quickly, before you've gotten over the last, all of a sudden there will be a new crazy trend making it's waves on Instagram and YouTube. I've teamed up with beauty experts Ellisons to create a list of my beauty predictions for the next year. As a brand, they have over 85 years of experience in delivering hair and beauty products and treatments to professionals, and they're currently in the process of releasing an eBook all about this year's beauty trends. It's something I actually thought of doing at the start of the year, but by the end of the first week in January, I was all 2017'd out by all the goals and predictions posts floating around the blogosphere. Better late than never eh? So here are the 5 things I think will be a hit this year...

1) Moving Away From "Instagram Makeup" | Finally! I can't be the only one that finds most of Instagram/YouTube's Beauty Guru tutorials totally unwearable. This year, I think we're going to be favouring a soft and fresh look, especially for spring and summer, with bright pops of colour (pink, peach, coral) on the lips and on the cheeks. Personally, I favour something in between "Instagram Makeup" and the natural look, taking the elements that I can actually do enhance my features without looking too overdone, although others may disagree based on the amount of highlight I love to throw on...

2) Glow Without the Glitter | Highlight was a huge trend of 2017, and I pray to god it's one that doesn't go out of fashion too soon. The only problem is that it's something that high-end brands like Becca do really well, and drugstore brands not so much (apart from Sleek, you need to try their Solstice Palette!). I've tried so many budget highlighters recently that are more glittery than glowy, and remind me all too much of slapping on the body glitter before the school disco. This year, I think budget brands will be taking inspiration from high-end formulas, to bring more products that give a lit-from-within glow without the glitter. I think 2017 will be the year that strobing takes centre stage too, rather than that full-on highlight/contour palaver.

3) At-Home/DIY Kits | Last year, there was a huge surge in popularity of salon-based beauty treatments, particularly the LVL lash lift, and now Microblading is new kid on the block. I feel like brands are really going to jump on this hype to bring affordable and easy at-home solutions to many of these in-salon treatments. I only wish there were more risk-free DIY options - I've had an at-home tooth whitening kit sat in my room for about 6 months because I'm too scared to use it!

4) Minimalism | Say goodbye to the YouTube haul culture, there's a new trend in town. Let's be real, what's the point in having a huge collection of products that you're never going to use? Inspired by the growing popularity of capsule wardrobes, having an edited selection of items in your stash is really going to be key this year. On the other side of minimalism, we're already seeing brands take a more simplistic approach like Beauty Pie's subscription service and Deciem's The Ordinary range of no-frills, budget friendly range of highly effective skincare. I'd love to see more multi-purpose products too that would save money and space in your makeup storage. It's a concept that should be applied to everyday beauty and not just your travel makeup bag.

5) Blush Pink & Rose Gold |
With blush pink enjoying huge popularity in the fashion world, it'd be wrong for it not to to filter into beauty. Think rose gold chrome on the nails, a metallic wash all over the eyes and a soft, peachy gold highlight, as well as a beautiful blush pink on the cheeks and lips for a monochromatic soft-focus look. I'm obsessed with the Maybelline Metallic Silk Nail Polish* in Rose Veil, and I really need to get my hands on the Laura Mercier Rose Gold Caviar stick for the eyes. If you want to go blush pink on the lips, I'm loving MAC Creme Cup or you can go all-out rose gold with the Milani Amore Mattalics Lip Cream* in Chromatic Addict. It's completely stunning but I haven't been brave enough to wear it out yet!

What do you think will be this year's big beauty trends?
