I started with my New-In Perfume launches posts last year, and I realised I actually hadn't done one since December. For 2017, I've decided to revamp that post into a (hopefully) monthly dose of all things fragrance, with gossip and news about new launches. Now that we are well into Spring, there is an abundance of brand new seasonal fragrances, and there have been some really exciting launches this month. I know florals for spring aren't exactly groundbreaking, but if that's your jam, new brand Atelier Bloem will be your best friend. Unfortunately I missed out on the launch event this month, but it's a concept that I'm really excited about! 

Latest Fragrance Gossip
  • Burberry Beauty (fragrance and cosmetics) is being acquired by Coty Inc (who manage designer fragrance brands like Marc Jacobs and Calvin Klein, in a partnership to boost the brand. It combines Burberry's British heritage, innovation and craftsmanship with Coty's experience in dealing with luxury brands.
  • The new face of Marc Jacobs Fragrances is to be Kaia Gerber, model and daughter of Cindy Crawford. The 15 year old has fronted Marc Jacobs Beauty since September 2016, and will appear in the Daisy ad campaign which debuts this month.
April Fragrance Launches

There is a new flanker in Givenchy's Live Irrésistible line, called Live Irrésistible Eau de Parfum Delicieuse (from £47 for 30ml), and as the name suggests, it offers a gourmande twist to last year's Live Irrésistible. The scent is based around heady rose and madeline French pastries, with cherry in the top notes, as well as a bouquet of roses and orange blossom at the heart, with a sweet, gourmand base of bitter almond, caramel, orris root and vanilla. I imagine this to be like the scent of cherry bakewell and rose, and sounds absolutely delicious.

There is a new version of the classic noughties scent, Flower By Kenzo. Flower By Kenzo Eau de Lumiere (from £37 for 30ml) attempts to bottle the scent and energy of light, combining it with the iconic FBK poppy flower. The radiant scent has citrussy Calabrian bergamot and cassis in the opening, with a heart of peach, ylang-ylang, jasmine and Bulgarian Rose, and a base of white musk, heliotrope and violet. As I mentioned in my Modern Classics Discovery Box post, I found it very powdery so I'm intrigued to see how this differs.

YSL have launched another flanker to last year's floral chypre scent, Mon Paris. This time, it is the turn of the Star Edition (£71 for 50ml), which is dressed up to the nines in a jazzy star print ribbon. I'm not totally sure if it is a new scent, but its notes of red berry, bergamot, datura (a sweet, narcotic white flower), jasmine, white musk and patchouli are very similar, if a little more simplistic than the original. Repackage or not, it'll certainly look great on your dressing table!

April Niche Fragrance Launches

Atelier Cologne have launched Clémentine California, a new addition to the Collection Originale. This scent is based around the idea of a Californian Clementine, taking everything from the sweet flesh to the greenness of the skin and the pith. The sunny scent opens with mandarin orange, clementine and juniper berry, with a fresh and spicy heart of basil, pepper and star anise, as well as a base of sandalwood, cypress and Haitain vetiver. It sounds like a very unique scent, and one that I'm very much looking forward to sniffing if I'm passing by Selfridges.

Another exciting concept is from Olfactive Studio, and their new fragrance Close Up (from £75 for 50ml) is inspired by a close up photograph of the eye, by Armenian Photographer Suren Manvelyan. Close Up has a unique mix of top notes, including green coffee, fresh spices and Griotte cherry, a heart of white tobacco, patchouli, Atlas cedar and Centifolia rose, and a warm base of amber, musk and tonka bean. I can't even imagine how this myriad of notes would combine together, so it is one that I am very intrigued to smell.

Finally, there is a new brand on the block, Atelier Bloem which was founded by one half of apothecary brand Malin + Goetz. The range of fragrances is inspired by Andrew Goetz's love of flowers and gardening, as well as the floral landscape of Amsterdam, in which he lived in the 1980's. The Dutch have a ritual of changing flowers in the home almost daily, and a visit to the Bloememarkt by the Single Canal in Central Amsterdam is obligatory. There are six bespoke fragrances in the range, each inspired by a different location or flower. I'm particularly eyeing up Nieuw Amsterdam (£160 for 100ml), although reading through the notes, I basically want them all. I best get myself off to Liberty (who exclusively stock the brand) to sniff them all!
