So I did a poll on Twitter, and it seems like loads of you love reading first impressions posts. I'd put these on the back-burner when I wanted my blog to be more of a curated selection of products that I genuinely recommend, but I missed writing about new-in beauty and there's no reason why I can't follow up on a post later on down the line if I'm absolutely obsessed with it. I thought I'd kick things off with a new-ish launch from Maybelline. When they announced the launch of their first 3-day brow tinting product, I had one thought: that looks darn familiar. It is a dead ringer for the Etude House Tint My Brows Gel, which I also own. When I used the Tint My Brows, I enjoyed the concept and found it very easy to use, but hadn't used it since. Despite being the perfect shade on the first day, it fades to a very warm-toned shade, and looks a bit odd on the brows if you don't have any other product on them. When Maybelline came out with their Tattoo Brow Tint* (aff), I had one wish and that was for it to be like Tint My Brows, without the red tones.

Did it live up to my expectations?

Well, the answer is no, not really, and I'll explain why in a moment. I think the concept is awesome, especially for someone who has sparse brows like me. The Tattoo Brow Tint is a little tube of brush-on gel that you apply and leave on for 25 mins to 2 hours (2 hours will give you the longest lasting results). You then peel it off, starting from the tail of your brow (it peels off pretty easily and doesn't hurt or pull any hairs out) revealing perfectly filled in brows without adding any extra product. Amazing, right? Whilst the colour on day one was a perfect cool-toned brown (I used the shade Dark Brown), sure enough it faded to more of a rusty red shade over the next few days. It lasted between two and three days on the brows, and luckily the tone didn't make too much difference to my overall brow look once I'd filled them in. It definitely made things easier in the mornings, and for that time-saving element it is great. However, the main reason that I would use a tint would be to make my brows look more perfect for no-makeup days, and the warm tone of the tint makes them look a bit odd without any other product on them, so it kind of defeats the point.

I would 100% recommend the Maybelline Tattoo Brow Tint (aff) if you do have a red tint to your hair and eyebrows, but for me especially having pale skin and cool-toned dark hair, the red tint was very noticeable. Maybe if you had tanned/dark skin you wouldn't notice it quite so much. I probably would still use it again, although I don't think it's something I would repurchase if I get to the end of it. That being said, I'm intrigued to see how many applications the tube contains as I feel like you have to apply quite a thick layer, and for £12.99 it's on the pricier side of drugstore makeup.

Would you try a peel-off brow tint?

  1. I think this would be a great at home tint product but I don't trust myself without accidently applying it too thickly and not being able to wash it off for days

  2. I would LOVE to try this but I'm also super pale so this is such a shame :(
